The members of the Center for Karst and Speleology, together with the citizens of Sarajevo, participated in the traditional „International Bat Night“ event at the street Vilsonovo lane. This street, which runs along the river Miljacka, with alley of old lindens, is a significant habitat for bats, especially Pipistrellus kuhlii\/nathusii<\/em>, but also Nyctalus noctula<\/em> and Vespertilio murinus<\/em>, which we recorded there on ultrasonic bat detectors. However, Pipistrellus kuhlii\/nathusii<\/em> are really numerous, both in the tree and above the river. In Vilsonovo lane, the traffic is prohibited in the evening and in the night, so this street is a popular promenade for many citizens of all ages. The International Bat Night we marked in the conversations with the walkers we shared postcards to help the idea of bats protection to be promoted to their friends and relatives, a leaflet entitled „Bats Need Friends“ and a brochure „Bats“ printed as part of the project „Let´s be friendly to bats together“ which is financially supported by the Visegrad Fund. The citizens of Sarajevo could hear the bats for the first time because we connected the ultrasonic bat detector to the loudspeaker. In total, over 400 of our fellow citizens participated in the celebration of the International Bat Night.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
